About Our Gift Calculator
Your IRA, 401k, 403b (e.g., TIAA-CREF plan), or other qualified, tax-deferred retirement plan will be considered "Income in Respect to a Decedent" (IRD) when it finally arrives in the hands of your heirs (other than your spouse). Although it is nearly impossible to predict exactly what the legislative future holds in store for the federal estate and state death tax laws, under current law the recipients of IRD assets have to pay ordinary income tax on their value. And that is in addition to any federal estate tax bite!

After estate, state death, and inheritance taxes, what will be left for your heirs? A gift to the University of Hartford could make full use of every penny.

If you and your spouse have more money saved for retirement than you expect to need during your lifetime(s), there are ways you could plan a gift now, or plan to give whatever principal is left over- before it is depleted by taxes.
