The 3-credit Capstone (PSY 625) is required for online MSOP students and serves as a culminating option for on-campus students. Ideal for working professionals, the project applies research to a real workplace challenge. Students complete a scholarly literature review and an applied project with guidance from a faculty advisor and peer cohort. The Capstone may be completed in either a 7- or 14-week format.

The Internship option (PSY 680 – 3 credits) is available for on-campus students who wish to obtain practical experience in an organizational setting for degree credit. Internships are recommended for students who need additional, applied work experience and may not already be employed full-time. Securing an approved internship placement is the students’ responsibility. All students are encouraged to take advantage of internship opportunities to obtain valuable, applied experience during their graduate training. Internships for degree credit are only available to on-campus students.

The online program admits new students in fall, spring, and summer with rolling admissions reviews year-round.
On-campus students typically begin in the fall semester, annually, though applications are reviewed on a rolling basis year-round. Prospective students are encouraged to apply early (by February, if possible), though applications will continue to be reviewed up until the fall program start date each year.

Assistant Professor Stephanie Tavarez founded a research and practitioner lab called SHINE, which stands for Shaping Human Interaction, Nurturing Diversity, and Enhancing Employability. The goal of its staff researchers is to unify theoretical insights on employability with real-world applications. Tavarez and her SHINE Lab colleagues worked on an exclusive consulting project in conjunction with a non-profit organization called InclusionBridge, dedicated to empowering students with an interest in data science. SHINE provided the group with free essential skills education and training.
SHINE was motivated by an ambition to bridge the employability gap. Our research delves deep into the nuances of human interaction, aiming to produce pragmatic solutions that advocate for diversity and equip individuals with tools to enhance their employability beyond just the academic space.
