Vincent LaMonica (b. 1993, he/him/his pronouns) enjoys a diverse career as a performer, conductor, composer, and educator. An in-demand bassoonist and contrabassoonist, Vinny has performed with the Symphony Orchestras of Springfield (MA), Portland (ME), Albany (NY), and Bangor (ME), among others. He is the Executive Director and bassoonist of the Doclé Reed Quintet, a Chicago-based ensemble of alumni from Northwestern University. His teachers included David McGill, Nancy Goeres, Rebecca Eldredge, Ronald Haroutunian, Margaret Phillips, and Janet Polk, and he attended the Aspen Music Festival in 2017.

Vinny was selected by the Connecticut Music Educators Association to conduct the 2020 Southern Region High School Band, and was slated to present at their All-State Conference in April 2020 (cancelled due to COVID-19) about using habit-based learning routines to revamp swamps and elevate the musical standards of individuals, ensembles, and programs.

In addition to his teaching at Hartt, Vinny conducts the East Woodstock Cornet Band and Ashford’s Babcock Cornet Band, is on the faculty at the Community Music School of Springfield, and teaches PreK-8 general music in Union, CT. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Vinny sought out ways to help musicians and communities.

Alongside oboist Teil Buck, he founded A Common Thread: reedsACT, which provides free online lessons internationally for double reed players. Vinny created online educational content to guide younger musicians in their practicing while band and lesson programs found new ways of reaching students, and helped develop the Women Composers Festival of Hartford’s first Virtual Festival.
