Jill Engel-Hellman (she/her/hers) has been the Director of Residential Life at the University of Hartford since June 2020. In this role she serves as the chief housing officer overseeing the strategy, operations, and management of a 2500-student housing program. The Office of Residential Life is made up of 15 professional/graduate staff members and 80 student leaders and is part of the Division of Student Success. Jill loves working in housing and residential life and with students. She believes it is vital to create inclusive residential communities where students know they belong and matter. She is a member of the President’s Steering Committee on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, the Division of Student Success Leadership team, and COVID Operations Planning committee. Before coming to UHart she was a part of residential life programs at Denison University, the University of Maryland, Binghamton University, and Kenyon College. Jill has served as a member of ACUHO-I’s Roles of the RA/RD Task Force, co-chair of the Ohio Housing Officer’s Fall Business Meeting, member of the National Housing Training Institute’s Planning Committee, and a faculty member for STARS College. She also has a significant amount of experience working with campus community members impacted by sexual misconduct and gender-based violence, serving as a Deputy Title IX Coordinator at two different institutions.
