A UHart Parent's Experience

Gail & Erica Silver

Gayle Silver’s daughter, Erica, is a sophomore in the College of Education, Nursing and Health Professions at UHart. She and her family found that experiences both in and out of the classroom were are equally important to Erica’s growth and success at UHart.

One of the main reasons her daughter Erica chose the University of Hartford was because of its physical therapy program. Gayle says, “When we learned about the combined Bachelor of Science/Doctor of Physical Therapy program at UHart, we realized this was a wonderful option. Erica will earn her bachelor’s degree and then move directly into the graduate physical therapy program. Hartford has so many different health science options and well-established programs, so that was very important to us.”

According to Gayle, Erica likes the fact that her classes are small. She feels as if the faculty know and support her. Erica meets with her advisor regularly and has also taken advantage of the tutoring services when she needs them.

Outside of classes, Erica is very involved in the executive board of the Ultimate Frisbee club, which she loves. Gayle tells us that “the girls [on the team] are very close and have been talking to each other every day since they came home from school due to the coronavirus.” Erica didn’t want to play sports at the college level, but the idea of belonging to a club or team was important to her.  The Ultimate Frisbee club provided the perfect balance.

Gayle says of Erica’s schooling, “The University of Hartford was the right choice for Erica, and she now calls Hartford her home – that’s how much she loves it!”
