Please join us in Auerbach 320 or online this Wednesday, Sept. 27, from 1 p.m. – 2 p.m., for our next meeting of the University of Hartford Philosophy Club as local poet Dennis Barone leads an informal discussion of poetry and philosophy by way of examples from his own work as well as that of Wallace Stevens. While Stevens is considered one of the most philosophical poets in American history, Barone sees himself as more concerned with matters historical than philosophical.

Dennis Barone is Professor Emeritus in English at the University of Saint Joseph. His most recent mixed-genre books are After Math and A Field Guide to the Rehearsal. Among his scholarly works is Beyond Memory: Italian Protestants in Italy and America. He has edited a number of books including Garnet Poems: An Anthology of Connecticut Poetry Since 1776.
An ongoing weekly tradition at the University since 2001, the University of Hartford Philosophy Club is a place where students, professors, and people from the community at large meet as peers. Sometimes presentations are given, followed by discussion. Other times, topics are hashed out by the whole group.
Presenters may be students, professors, or people from the community. Anyone can offer to present a topic. The mode of presentation may be as formal or informal as the presenter chooses.
Food and drink are served. Come and go as you wish. Bring friends. Suggest topics and activities. Take over the club! It belongs to you!
