Reminders and Checklist for Residential Students
As the weather gets colder, the days shorter, and the holidays nearer, it is a good time to review the following information:
Smoking Policy
No smoking is allowed in any UHart residential or academic space. All individuals must smoke 25 feet away from any building on campus. Thank you for your cooperation.
Heat and Windows
As preventive measures, please set your thermostat to no less than 60°F and ensure all windows are closed when headed home or away for the Thanksgiving and semester break. During winter cold, pipes can freeze quickly without heat or if windows are left open.
Semester Break Checklist
Please complete the checklist below before leaving your space for the semester break in December:
- Take home all belongings (medicine, ID, clothing, etc.) you will need for break. Students will not be permitted back in residential spaces after checking out.
- Leave refrigerators plugged in. Dispose of any perishable items in refrigerators. RAs will open refrigerators to check for and dispose of any perishable items left in refrigerators and common spaces during Health and Safety Inspections.
- Ensure all windows are closed and locked.
- Clean your bedroom and common spaces.
- Wash all dishes.
- Take out and dispose of trash and any food that will spoil in dumpsters.
- Leave heat on with thermostat set to no less than 60 degrees.
- Take all valuables with you.
- Take home your room key and UHart ID card.
- Lock your door when you depart.
- Check out in the Office of Residential Life
Residential Life will be entering every housing unit to complete health and safety inspections, as well as ensure the checklist was completed for each break period.
Students will be billed for health and safety violations and damage that includes, but is not limited to, dirty dishes and disposal of trash and perishable items left in refrigerators and common spaces.
Navigating Campus
With the early arrival of darkness following this past weekend’s time change, please use extra caution when driving and walking on campus. UHart is primarily a pedestrian campus, so when driving, please remember to provide the right of way to those on foot and use cation at crosswalks.
