Outdoor Siren and Text Alert Tests to Take Place on Feb. 2 at 4 p.m.

The Department of Public Safety will be conducting a dual test of UHart's outdoor siren alert and emergency text alert systems on Friday, Feb. 2, at approximately 4 p.m.

The siren alert test is expected to last only a few seconds. You do not need to evacuate your building or take action when you hear them during the Feb. 2 test.

The sirens, located in Residential Complex F and the Barney School of Business, were installed to work in conjunction with the University’s emergency text alert system. Aside from announced tests, the sirens will only be activated in an extreme emergency, and the campus community should then refer to emergency text alerts for announcements and instructions.

On Feb. 2, all students, faculty, and staff who have a current cell phone number recorded in the Self-Service Center should receive the test message as a text on their cell phone moments around the time the outdoor siren sounds on campus. In addition, all students, faculty, and staff should receive this test message through their University of Hartford email.

You must have an accurate cell phone number recorded in Self-Service in order to receive emergency text notifications on your phone. The text message alert system was established to quickly inform students, faculty, and staff of potential, developing, or existing emergencies. Weather-related closings are also announced through the text message system.

See step-by-step instructions on verifying, modifying, or adding your cell phone information in the Self-Service Center.
