Call for Applications for Inclusive Excellence DEIJB Faculty Fellows Program

PROGRAM OVERVIEW:

The Office for Diversity, Equity, and Community Engagement (DEC) Faculty Fellows Program supports the advancement of diversity, equity, inclusion, social justice, and belonging at University of Hartford.

The Assistant Vice President for Diversity, Equity and Community Engagement (DEC) and Associate Provost for Faculty Affairs and Research and Provost invites interested faculty to apply for the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Social Justice, and Belonging (DEIJB) Faculty Fellows Program. UHart’ s (DEIJB) Faculty Fellows are provided with an opportunity to work closely with the Assistant Vice President for (DEC) and the Associate Provost to support strategic initiatives committed to advancing diversity, equity, inclusion, social Justice, and belonging (DEIJB) efforts. Program outcomes will serve as further evidence of the Office of (DEC) commitment to the University’s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Social Justice and Belonging Action Plan for Inclusive Excellence 2023-2025 plan.

TERMS:

The DEIJB Faculty Fellow will serve one-year terms with one course reduction (i.e., 3 hours of load) per academic year (August to May) with a maximum two course reductions over a one-year period. Terms are renewable based on progress towards goals and institutional needs. The terms of the DEIJB Faculty Fellows initiatives are set by Assistant Vice President for (DEC) and the Associate Provost for Faculty Affairs and Research annually. One DEIJB Faculty Fellow will be selected during the 2024-2025 academic year.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE?

All full-time faculty are eligible to apply (i.e., tenure-track or tenure is not a requirement for application)

Functions:
  • Work with the Assistant Vice President of Diversity, Equity, and Community Engagement (DEC) and the Associate Provost of Faculty Affairs and Research to develop initiatives dedicated to advancing equity and Inclusive Excellence at the University of Hartford.
  • Collaborate closely with the Associate Provost of Faculty Affairs and Research to focus specifically on initiatives to support the recruitment and retention of Faculty of Color. This includes, but is not limited to: seeking out grant opportunities, developing mentorship programs, researching best practices, and identifying opportunities for community building and healing.
  • Assist in facilitating university-wide initiatives and activities that advances a culture of equity and Inclusive Excellence.
  • Develop scholar-practitioner collaborations with staff and faculty and identify areas of potential goals and actions to advance equity, and Inclusive Excellence.
  • Work with the chairs of the President's Steering Committee to fully execute the charge of the committee to cultivate and enrich the UHART community as a place of inclusion and belonging.
  • Actively participate in national and or international diversity and inclusion organizations and networks to learn 'best practices' that will inform campus equity and inclusive excellence initiatives. Some travel may be expected and will be reimbursed.
Additional DEIJB Faculty Fellows Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Complete a written year-end summary that includes a review of goals and objective, and an assessment of the extent to which goals and objectives were accomplished.
  • Meet with The Assistant Vice President for Diversity, Equity and Community Engagement (DEC) and Associate Provost for Faculty Affairs and Research and Provost throughout the academic term.
