Spring 2024 DEIJB Online Training

As part of our ongoing commitment and work to advance inclusive excellence, all employees are encouraged to participate in the Communication for Inclusion (Faculty and Staff) learning module.

This year, the University has partnered with Vector Solutions (formerly known as EVERFI) to continue providing online trainings that will help deepen our understanding on topics vital to achieving our goal of creating classrooms and workplaces that are safe, welcoming, and supportive to our students and colleagues.  These trainings are, in addition to being highly interactive and engaging, based in research around best practices for communicating and maintaining healthy relationships with colleagues and students. We see this as one tool, along with a variety of other professional development opportunities available on campus, to increase awareness and understanding. We hope you will participate.

The Communication for Inclusion (Faculty and Staff) learning module focuses on the importance of considering impact, not intent, when engaging with identity terminology and self-identification. Microaggressions are defined and explored, with an emphasis on the impact of unchecked microaggressions as well as on strategies for recipients, senders, and bystanders who want to mitigate the harm that microaggressions cause.  The course ends by discussing micro-affirmations and the way they can be used to counteract the negative impact of microaggressions.  Please plan for approximately 50 minutes to complete.  You may pause the training at any time.

You will receive an email from Vector Solutions, an outside party, when the training module is assigned to you. This module will open the week of Feb. 19, and close the last week of April.  You will be receiving a weekly email entitled “Vector LMS, Higher Education Edition Online Training” as reminder to log in and complete the training.

Thank you for your commitment and participation as we strive to foster an inclusive safe campus community. Let’s continue on this journey!
