Dissertation Presentation in the Doctoral Program in Educational Leadership for Social Justice

flyer

Join us for a dissertation presentation by Juan Gonzalez, on March 27, from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Juan Gonzalez's study reveals what Foster Care Alumni (FCA) reported regarding their personal, social, familial resiliency, and the institutional safety nets they experienced while thriving in their postsecondary institutions. Addressing the educational achievement gap of FCA is a social justice issue as is the role postsecondary institutions play in ameliorating barriers for this group. His study utilized Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) and semi-structured interviews to examine what FCA reported regarding how they perceived their resilience on campus. His findings identified four major themes:

  1. Dispositional traits,
  2. Demonstrated qualities and assets,
  3. Supportive familial relationships,
  4. Institutional deficits and norms of White privilege.
