FAFSA Renewal Due April 1

The 2024-25 FAFSA is now available for completion. All returning students should complete the FAFSA by the UHart preferred completion deadline of April 1, 2024. The FAFSA is used to renew need based institutional and federal aid.

You may have heard that there are a number of changes to the FASFA, which is the federal form used to determine need. These changes have made the form much easier with significantly fewer questions, but you will notice that the process is a bit different.

Here you will find information about these changes. Below are a few of the most important changes:

  • For divorced or separated parents, income and assets are reported for the parent who provides the most financial support over the 12 months prior to filing the FAFSA even if the student does not live with that parent or lives with the other parent. The parent of record is self-reported on the FAFSA by the student/parent.
  • The FAFSA will not be complete until all contributors complete their portion of the FAFSA form.
  • Removal of the number of family members in college from the eligibility calculation which may result in reduced need-based eligibility for current students with siblings in college.

The Office of Student Financial Aid is available to meet with students to assist with FAFSA completion. Please stop into Bates House or email finaid@hartford.edu to schedule an appointment.
