Connecticut’s Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services Visited with Hillyer College Students

Guest speakers from Connecticut’s Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services visited with Hillyer College students in Associate Professor of Psychology Noel Casiano’s Addictive Behaviors for Human Services class. As part of UHart’s Career to Classroom Day, Director of Operations of Young Adult Services Jennifer Abbatemarco, LCSW, and Director of Utilization & Quality Management for Young Adult Services Kristen Russell, LCSW, spoke with the students about a career in human services, the field of mental health and addiction services, and how they can be a positive resource in our community.

Hillyer’s Addictive Behaviors for Human Services course examines how addictions affect behaviors, motivations, and the human experience. Students are learning about the U.S.’s drug policies, their evolution and current status, and alternative perspectives from throughout the world. Students also gain knowledge about the latest data and research on different types of drugs, the illegal drug business, and global drug policy that affects the human services field.
