Equity-Focused Teaching: A Summer Institute on Curriculum & Instruction Designed to Meet the Needs of Our Students

CTEI is thrilled to announce the upcoming Summer Institute (SI), designed to support our UHart faculty in their pursuit of creating more equitable learning experiences for students. This program is an opportunity for you to engage with cross-disciplinary peers, explore equity-focused teaching practices, and develop strategies that will enrich your curriculum and pedagogy.

Why Participate? The SI represents a collaborative opportunity, welcoming both instructors new to, and seasoned advocates of, equity-focused teaching, to collectively advance our pedagogical practices. Here’s what you can expect to achieve:

  • Deepen your understanding of equity-focused teaching through various lenses, including Universal Design for Learning (UDL).
  • Enhance your skills in revising curricula to meet the diverse needs of our UHart students.
  • Build a community of practice, sharing resources and experiences with colleagues committed to equity-focused teaching.
  • Contribute to our university’s mission of academic excellence and social justice.

Choose Your Path:

  • Path A: Universal Design for Learning – Facilitated by the CTEI Director, this path focuses on applying UDL principles to make your course design more transparent and accessible.
  • Path B: Self-guided, Equity-focused Teaching – Share your experiences and set new goals to further your work in creating a sense of belonging and inclusivity in your classroom.

Key Dates:

  • Applications Due: April 30, 2024
  • Two-Day Workshop: May 15–16, 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., featuring virtual speakers and interactive activities.
  • Two, Monthly Virtual Meetings: June and July (TBD), to discuss progress and share insights.
  • Ongoing Support: Virtual check-ins throughout the 2024-25 academic year.

Who Should Apply?

  • Full-time faculty members or teaching staff with at least one year at our institution.
  • Part-time faculty members who have taught at least 5 courses and are scheduled to teach in the 2024-2025 academic year.
