UHart Receives Additional Grant to Enhance Opioid and Stimulant Education Activities

Through fall 2027, the University of Hartford will implement of a host of outreach activities made possible by a $30,000 grant distributed through Wheeler Clinic’s Connecticut Healthy Campus Initiative. Activities include the campus distribution and training awareness of naloxone (Narcan) in campus automatic defibrillator (AED) boxes, conducting student trainings on opioid and stimulant misuse, safe medicine storage and disposal instruction for Public Safety staff and student leadership groups, and organizing tabling events to distribute materials aimed at raising public awareness around these important health and wellbeing issues.

Grant funds will also support emergency preparedness measures including purchasing additional Narcan for Public Safety officers. The grant, overseen by the Division of Student Success under Jack Bushell, Director of Student Health and Well-being, will guide activities to encourage student participation in the 2027 American College Health Association’s annual survey to reach completion targets resulting in valuable data to inform long-term education and prevention strategy. 

This is the third like grant the University has won, totaling a combined $100,000 since 2021. UHart is proud to be one of fifteen college campuses in the state to be awarded this multi-year grant.
