The University of Hartford has begun work to transform its Konover Campus Center into a new contemporary dining space and gathering spot for the campus community. The east side of the center, formerly a Subway location, will feature a new dining concept centered around Connecticut’s best pizza, burgers, and wings—curated by a new chef with involvement from current students.
There will also be a new outdoor patio and pond area to support casual dining as well as more formal events, such as live music featuring student artists. The space will feature bench seating and a new fountain, creating a welcoming spot for the campus community.
“Students understandably are passionate about the quality of living and learning spaces on campus, so we are excited to invite them to co-create this reimagined space,” said University of Hartford President Lawrence P. Ward. “Direct input from students along with the creative energy of our staff and Aramark will help to transform the Konover Campus Center into a vibrant destination with cool food, social programming, and fun entertainment offerings for our entire community. This will be a welcomed and important addition to the UHart student experience.”
The significant renovation, which has already begun, is scheduled to be completed in summer 2026. The west side of Konover will remain open for student programming during construction. All the enhancements will be funded through the University’s existing contract with its dining partner, Aramark.

"We’re proud to continue our strong partnership with the University of Hartford through this exciting transformation of the former Subway space,” said Michael Pieksza, vice president of operations for Aramark University of Hartford. “This new dining concept is being designed with student insights at its core, ensuring it reflects their preferences and enhances their campus experience. At Aramark, we’re committed to delivering innovative, student-focused dining solutions, and this latest evolution is a testament to that mission. We look forward to unveiling a space that’s as dynamic and welcoming as our students themselves."
While the work proceeds, UHart will provide a new mobile food trailer that will serve multiple areas of campus, as well as performances and athletic events. The Hawk’s Nest casual dining space in University Commons will also be open extra hours.
The University has significantly invested in its physical infrastructure in recent years, with new academic buildings, upgrades to residential complexes and common spaces, and a new track and field. The Starbucks location in the Harrison Libraries will also undergo a full renovation beginning in summer 2026.
