The annual Professional Etiquette Dinner was hosted by the Allan Center for Career and Professional Development on Wednesday, Nov. 12. This year's sold-out event drew remarkable participation, with 159 students from across all seven schools and colleges joined by 34 mentors, 23 of whom were alumni, who were seated according to their career interests or university connections.
The event showcased the broad diversity across campus, with students representing all seven schools and colleges. Attendance was anchored by the Barney School of Business, with strong participation from the College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Engineering, Technology and Architecture, along with students from Hillyer College, the College of Education, Nursing & Health Professions, Hartford Art School, and The Hartt School. Students represented over 40 different majors, with Business Analytics & Managerial Economics, Management, and Marketing among the most represented, alongside diverse fields ranging from Mechanical Engineering and Sports Management to Digital Media & Journalism, Psychology, and the performing arts.
Throughout a four-course meal in the GSU North and South Café, a series of etiquette lessons were presented by Alex Coury '08 M'10, Associate Vice President for Industry Partnerships and Career Experiences. Topics ranging from table manners, conversation do's and don'ts, and more were taught—and then put into practice during the dinner.
This event is a fixture of the Corine T. Norgaard Networking and Leadership Workshops, in honor of the beloved Barney School of Business professor, distinguished scholar, and dean who passed away in 2011. This year's event was made possible through the generous support of our sponsors: Aramark, and the Barney School of Business through the Corine T. Norgaard Fund and the Allan Center.
