The Department of Politics, Economics, and International Studies (PEIS) and the Department of History host a campus conversation on The American Revolution, a film by Ken Burns, Sarah Botstein, and David Schmidt. The event will feature a thought-provoking hour-long virtual discussion with a panel of experts about the series and its exploration of America’s fight for independence.
The hour-long event, for college faculty and students, will feature filmmakers Burns and Botstein, with experts Christopher Brown and Maggie Blackhawk, and will be moderated by Patrick J. Egan. It is part of the premiere week of the documentary, which airs on PBS starting Sunday, Nov. 16.
On July 4, 2026, our nation will commemorate and celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The American Revolution offers a fresh perspective on the era, blending detailed storytelling with personal accounts from soldiers, women, enslaved individuals, and Native Americans whose lives were forever changed by the revolutionary conflict. The event and series will focus on how these diverse voices have shaped the narrative of American independence.
