Join us for Taylor St. Pierre’s presentation of dissertation research that examined the self-reported confidence of first-year undergraduate students at a four-year private university on Monday, Dec. 15 at 1 p.m.
The researcher examined the application of the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education to traditional information sources and AI-generated content. Surveys were administered before and after a "one-shot" library instruction session that integrated AI literacy with traditional instruction.
The findings reveal that while first year students initially reported lower confidence applying information literacy skills to AI-generated content compared to traditional sources, they reported increased confidence across all concepts following the library session. Academic Librarians should continue to utilize the ACRL Framework to adapt library-led “one-shot” information literacy session to the evolving ecosystem of information that includes generative AI. By employing the framework concepts as an introduction to AI literacy, librarians can position themselves at the forefront of AI literacy developments.
