Meet Bates House

University of Hartford's "white house," also known as Bates House is home to our Office of Admission and Student Financial Aid.

The History of Bates House

Bates used to be an old farm house and it still has the cozy, personal atmosphere that makes it feel like home.

Our team of counselors are dedicated to making your admission process as smooth as possible. We are here to answer your questions and make you feel comfortable. We realize that choosing a college is a big decision. We asked our admission counselors some fun questions so you can get to them personally.

Fun facts about our counselors

Nathan Burrage

What do you love to show students during their campus tour?

I love to show students the walking bridge on campus. This is such an underrated part of campus because it creates a comfortable separation of their educational demands and their social lives.

Share a fun fact about you!

What is your favorite place on campus to show students?

My favorite place to show students on campus is the Gengras Student Union. This building has so many resources such as Study Abroad, the Center for Student Success, and the Office of Student, Engagement, and Inclusion. Also, can’t forget about all the yummy food options in the Gengras Café!

What have you recently binge watched?

I’ve recently binge watched WandaVision.

What is your favorite UHart event?

My favorite UHart event is First Flight! It’s a great event to get the campus community together and show some hawk spirit!

What is your favorite spot in downtown West Hartford/Hartford?

A few of my favorite spots are Bar Taco for a yummy dinner in Blue Back Square, and Koma Hibachi for the hibachi lunch special in Bishop’s Corner.

What advice would you share to an incoming UHart student?

Don’t be afraid to step outside of your comfort zone! Everyone is in a similar position when they first enter college so introduce yourself to new people, try new clubs, and make the most of your experience.

Join a club or organizations that you might not normally get involved with. It allows you to meet new people and helps to create your unique college experience."
