From Passion to Profession Career Summit

Saturday, August 23

All incoming A&S sophomores are invited to From Passion to Profession, a free, full-day career summit designed to help you explore potential career paths, build confidence, and strengthen essential communication, networking, and professional outreach skills.

Reservations are now being accepted and will close once we reach capacity.

About the Summit

We’ve partnered with You Emerge Coaching, a Bloomfield-based firm dedicated to helping college students unlock their full potential. Throughout the day, you’ll participate in interactive workshops led by Allan Center staff, local alumni, industry professionals, and Executive Leadership and Life Coach Sylvia Ofori-Boadu. Whether you’re just beginning to explore career options or refining your path, this summit is designed to give you hands-on experience, practical strategies, and personalized support to help you move forward with confidence.

Workshop Schedule

Start the day with a light breakfast and meet fellow participants in a fun, low-pressure environment.

You’ll rotate through three 30-minute hands-on workshops designed to help you build clarity and confidence in your next steps:

  • Dress for success: Learn more about dressing for success in a professional environment and pick out an outfit from the career closet.
  • The Art of Email: Learn email best practices for the workplace and write an introductory message you can use in professional outreach.
  • Communication Skills: From interpersonal to large group communication, hear tips on how to build relationships, clearly communicate and be more confident in speaking to others.
Enjoy lunch while picking up a few polished dining dos and don’ts for professional events.

Work with Sylvia and her team in small groups to discuss career paths, get feedback on your resume, and practice sharing your story.

  • 1:15 p.m. – 2 p.m.: Exploratory (Undecided), Biology/Chemistry, Physics/Math, Communication
  • 2 p.m. – 2:45 p.m.: Humanities, Sociology/Criminal Justice, Politics & Government, International Studies, Economics, and more

Career Ambassadors will be available throughout to support one-on-one resume reviews.

  • Presentation Skills & Public Speaking: Gain confidence and practical tips for speaking up in class, at work, or in an interview.
  • Networking Tips: From the first handshake to the follow-up email, learn how to build and maintain a strong professional network.
  • Sophomore Checklist Creation: Learn more about and develop a checklist to set yourself up for success in your sophomore year.
Wrap up with refreshments and remarks from UHart President Lawrence P. Ward.
