Fall Open House Information

We Look Forward To Seeing You At Our Fall Open House!

Everything you need to know about your Open House experience. 

Check-in begins at 9:30 a.m. ET at the Gengras Student Union. We encourage you to look at the list of programming and arrive based on what offerings you are interested in. There is no specific time you need to arrive, but please note that check-in closes at 11:30 a.m. ET.

Additional details regarding parking, check-in, and more will be shared via email in the days prior to the event. If you have any questions in the meantime, please email admission@hartford.edu.

Experience UHart in a way that works for you—we've designed our events to be a true open house where you can pick and choose which offerings work for you. We have highlighted for you below the different offerings available throughout the day. 

Event Overview

Check-In (9:30-11:30 a.m.)—Located at the Gengras Student Union
Attendees can arrive any time after 9:30 a.m.. We encourage attendees to look at the schedule of offerings and arrive earlier or later depending upon which activities you wish to participate in. Check-in is open until 11:30 a.m.

Campus Tours (9:30 a.m.-1 p.m.)
Campus Tours are available throughout the day. You will have the opportunity to tour key spaces like the residence halls, the Gengras Student Union, the Sports Center, the main dining hall—the Commons, and the library. Tours depart from the front stairs of Dana Hall. If it is raining, tours will depart from the Gengras Student Union

Resource Fair (9:30 a.m.-Noon)
Departments will be set up in the Gengras Student Union. Meet representatives from a number of our student support and activities programs.

Information Sessions (throughout the day)

Join us to learn more about Admission and Financial Aid, Athletics and Recreation, the Center for Student Success, and the Honors Program.  

College Programming (10:30 a.m.-1 p.m.)
Our seven schools and colleges will have a variety of programming available throughout this time.

Join us for an information session on the following topics:

Admission and financial aid:

Learn more about the admission process at UHart with the Dean of Admission and Executive Director of Financial Aid. Approximate length of presentation is 45 minutes. 

9:15 a.m. (for our early arrivals!) | 10:30 a.m. | 11:30 a.m. Location–Hillyer Hall, Room 125

Athletics and Recreation:

Receive an overview of Athletics and Recreation—including our transition to Division III, indoor and outdoor facilities, teams, head coach program contacts and more. Approximate length of presentation is 45 minutes.

9:50 a.m. Location–GSU 203

Center for Student Success:

The Center for Student Success helps students seamlessly transition into their first year. We connect students to one-on-one tutoring and support in study skills, mental health and wellness, career exploration and internships, financial aid and scholarships, and student clubs and activities. Approximate length of presentation is 30 minutes.

The Honors Program:

The Honors Program is a unique opportunity that allows students to get the most out of their academic experience. This session will describe the benefits of the Honors Program, and will give an overview of the requirements. Approximate length of presentation is 30 minutes.

Learn more about the College of Arts and Sciences at the following events:

  • 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m.— A&S Hub: Join us in the Shaw Center and meet faculty and current students representing the Humanities, Sciences, and Social Sciences. Learn more about the different majors and student experience at A&S. 
  • 10:30 a.m. & Noon—Biology and Chemistry Lab Tours: Explore the lab spaces for our science programs.
  • 10:30 a.m. & Noon—Computing Sciences Labs Tour: Explore our Computing Sciences labs.
  •  10:30 a.m. & Noon—School of Communication Tours: Explore our School of Communication spaces including our podcast studio, TV studio, editing labs and more.

  • 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m.—Barney Hub: Meet faculty and current students of the Barney School of Business. See our new spaces including the trading and analytics lab. Learn more about the different majors, the clubs and organizations within the college, and our Career Ready focus.

  • 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m.—CETA Hub: Meet current student ambassadors and faculty representing the different majors and departments in the Hursey Center. Learn more about our majors and check out the facilities for our different programs. 
  • 10:30 a.m. (departs every 15 minutes)—Hursey Center Tours: Explore our newest academic building!

  • 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m.—ENHP Hub: Meet faculty and current student ambassadors representing the different majors in the Hursey Center. Learn more about our majors and check out the labs and facilities for our different programs.
  • 10:30 a.m. (will depart every 30 minutes)—Hursey Center Tours: Explore our newest academic building!
  • 11 a.m.— Welcome Presentation with Dean Thompson: Join us for brief welcome remarks.

Learn more about the Hartford Art School at the following events:

Students interested in the Hartford Art School should plan to arrive by 10:30 a.m. to participate in the available programming. All programming takes place in our academic building

  • 10:30 a.m. – Introduction to the Hartford Art School with Robert Calafiore, Associate Dean of Administration and Finance. 
  • 11:00 a.m.– Art History Lecture with Amanda Carlson, Associate Professor of Art History
  • 11:15 a.m.– Your First Year of Art School with Jeremiah Patterson, Professor of Foundation
  • 11:30 a.m. – The groups will split in half to attend two studio demonstrations with our Professors
      • Ceramics Demonstration with Matt Towers, Ceramics Professor 
      • Animation/Game Art Demonstration with David Calabrese, Associate Professor of Illustration 
  • 12:00 p.m. - Groups will switch places to see the demonstration they have not seen yet

  • 12:30 p.m. - 1:15 p.m – Hartford Art School Tour and Questions

November 5, 2023: Hartt Open House Offerings: Early Action Auditions at Hartt 

Get a jump start into the audition season! Music and Dance students who apply Early Action to The University of Hartford by November 1, 2023 will have the opportunity to sign up for an Early Action Audition! In addition, students will be able to Tour our buildings, mingle with current students and spend time with the faculty they hope to study with when they get to Hartt! 

10:30 a.m. – Welcome to Hartt:  A welcome program for all student interested in The Hartt School. Learn more about the Hartt Difference and see our students in action.  Location: Millard Auditorium, Fuller Music Center    

Auditions: Auditions are pre-scheduled through your application. 

TOURS:

11:00 a.m. & 1p.m.  Fuller Music Center Tours: Tour around the Fuller Music Center, see our performance spaces, practice rooms and rehearsal hall.  This is a great opportunity to ask questions about the Hartt Experience.  Location: Sukman Foyer, Fuller Music Center  
 
10:30 a.m. & 12:45 p.m. Handel Performing Arts Center Tours: Visit The Handel Performing Arts Center (HPAC), home of our Dance and Theatre programs.  While on this campus, get a tour of the rehearsal and performance spaces and meet current students.  Meet in the Lobby of HPAC, Location: 35 Westbourne Pkwy, Hartford, CT 06112 Please note: Due to auditions there will be no transportation to this location. 

11a.m.–1 p.m.  Hartt Recording Studio:  View our Hartt Recording Studio and meet a current Music Production and Technology student. Location: 3rd Floor, Fuller Music Center
