Jeremy Hill

Jeremy Adam Hill is an architect, educator, and founder of Happy Haus Design. Over more than twenty-five years of practice, his work has explored architecture through the intersection of design, material, craft, technology, and environmental performance. His approach is grounded in the idea that architecture should respond thoughtfully to site and climate while creating spaces defined by proportion, daylight, materiality, and the experience of inhabitation.

Jeremy received his Bachelor of Science in Architecture and Planning from The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., and his Master of Architecture from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York. His career has moved across architectural practice, design, development, digital fabrication, and construction, shaping an approach that considers architecture at multiple scales—from the precision of a detail and the assembly of materials to the spatial and environmental experience of the whole building.

In 2021, Jeremy founded Happy Haus Design, a Stamford-based architecture practice centered on contemporary residential design and high-performance building. The studio integrates Passive House principles and building science into the architectural process, exploring how orientation, envelope, structure, material, daylight, and landscape can work together as a coherent design strategy. Rather than treating sustainability as a technical layer added to a building, the practice approaches performance as an integral part of the architecture—one that can inform form, detail, construction, comfort, and the character of a place.

His work has been published in Dwell, New York Spaces, and National Geographic, among other publications. Most recently, Happy Haus Design was selected as the winner of the design competition for the redesign of the Lathon Wider Community Center in Stamford, Connecticut, extending the studio’s work into civic architecture and creating an opportunity to contribute directly to the community in which Jeremy lives and practices.

Jeremy is a registered architect, a member of the AIA and NOMA, and a Certified Passive House Consultant (CPHC). He has also served on a number of committees over the years with the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB), including the “Rethink” Committee, the Architectural Experience Program (AXP) Committee, and the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee for the last two years. His service reflects a longstanding commitment to architectural practice, mentorship, education, and creating stronger pathways between the academy, professional experience, and architectural licensure.

Since 2023, Jeremy has taught as an adjunct in the University of Hartford’s Department of Architecture. His teaching draws directly from practice and brings together architectural design, digital fabrication, building science, materials, detailing, and construction. In the studio, he encourages students to think beyond architecture as an image and instead understand buildings as an integration of concept, site, structure, enclosure, material, environmental performance, and the realities of making.
