Dr. Fahimeh (Paria) Yavartanoo specializes in structural and architectural engineering, with interdisciplinary research spanning computational modeling, experimental investigation, heritage conservation, advanced construction materials, and digital fabrication. Her work integrates numerical simulation, laboratory experimentation, and computational design to advance resilient, sustainable, and innovative structural systems.
Dr. Yavartanoo received her Ph.D. in Architectural Engineering from Seoul National University, South Korea, where her doctoral research focused on assessment and strengthening strategies for historic masonry monuments, particularly Korean stone pagodas and other culturally significant structures. She also holds a Master of Architecture degree, with research on sustainable architectural design and passive heating strategies using double-skin façades. This multidisciplinary background informs her work at the intersection of architectural design, structural performance, and sustainability.
Before joining the University of Hartford, Dr. Yavartanoo served as a Postdoctoral Research Associate and Adjunct Assistant Professor at The City College of New York (CCNY), working across the Spitzer School of Architecture and Grove School of Engineering. She taught undergraduate and graduate courses including Structures I and II, Reinforced Concrete Design, and SAP2000, while mentoring graduate students, supervising research projects, and coordinating structural laboratory activities.
Her research encompasses numerical and computational structural analysis, finite element modeling, masonry and concrete structures, seismic performance, advanced materials, and emerging construction technologies. She has contributed to studies on the seismic assessment of historic and contemporary structures, bio-inspired structural systems, and innovative structural forms under complex loading conditions. Her current work includes high-performance 3D-printed post-tensioned concrete beams, funicular concrete structures, and multilayer sheet-based funicular glass bridges developed through international collaborations.
Dr. Yavartanoo’s research has been published in leading peer-reviewed journals and international conference proceedings, including the ASCE Journal of Structural Engineering, Engineering Structures, Journal of Building Engineering, and Engineering Failure Analysis. She also serves as a reviewer for international journals in structural engineering, materials, and heritage conservation.
Her academic collaborations span institutions in the United States, Europe, and South Korea, supporting interdisciplinary work in computational structural engineering, historic preservation, digital fabrication, and sustainable construction technologies.
