Teaching Focus
Department Chair, Program Director, and Professor of Physical Therapy Catherine Certo, PT, ScD, FAPTA, believes that the classroom setting, both lecture and lab, provides a perfect opportunity for students to begin professional socialization and make the connection between didactic and clinical application of theory and skills. Certo’s extensive background in cardiovascular and pulmonary rehabilitation draws from a vast body of evidence to manage patients in a unique way. As a reflective practitioner, her courses help students to understand the relationship between didactic information, such as heart rate and blood pressure, and its relationship to clinical application.
Professional Interests
Certo’s research interest is in the effects of exercise on the cardiovascular/pulmonary system throughout the lifespan. Her work in this area has expanded to include the relationship between exercise and balance. Recent project: Mobility Index: Developing a clinical test for assessing functional balance.
