Teaching Focus: Associate Professor Claudia Oakes teaches a wide range of health science elective courses, including Introduction to Gerontology, Introduction to Health Promotion, and Educational Strategies for Healthcare Professionals. She encourages students to get involved in activities in the community so they can relate their coursework to real-life situations. Oakes also teaches in the pre-medical professions studies sequence.

Professional Interests: Oakes' research interests relate to senior housing. She is researching the effect of home modifications on older adults' perceptions of safety and on their ability to age in place.
