Teaching Focus

Associate Professor Brian Swanson PT, DSc is a Board Certified Specialist in Orthopaedic Physical Therapy (OCS), and a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapists. He has over 20 years of clinical experience, with expertise in the areas of orthopedics, sports medicine, and manual therapy. Dr. Swanson shares this expertise with graduate students in the Doctor of Physical Therapy program during the Examination and Intervention of Musculoskeletal Pathologies (spine and extremity) and Scientific Inquiry courses.

Professional Interests:

Dr. Swanson’s research is focused on developing a deeper understanding of the mechanisms of action of manual therapy techniques, as well as investigating the validity and clinical utility of tests and measures described in the orthopedic manual therapy literature. He is also an actively involved in professional service locally as a member of the Connecticut Physical Therapy Association and nationally, where he serves on the research committee of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapists.
