Mark Planner was born in Brooklyn, New York. He attended Stuyvesant High School in Manhattan and then went out to graudate with a degree in speech and drama from The City College of New York. He began vocal studies with master voice teacher Paul Gavert in 1970.

Mark appeared in original New York productions of such shows as Godspell and Jesus Christ Superstar, as well as national tours, stock productions, concerts and recordings. Planner appeared as a vocal soloist with the Traverse Symphony in Michigan in the summers of 2001 and 2002. He became teaching protégé of Paul Gavert in 1979.

Over the years Mark's students have performed on Broadway and in National Tours of42nd Street,Phantom of the Opera, Cats, Tommy, Les Miserables, Kiss of the Spider Woman, Miss Saigon, Jekyll & Hyde, Rent, Ragtime, Cabaret, The Lion King, The Music Man, Oklahoma, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Mama Mia,Urinetown, Hairspray, Wicked, A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder and the 2014 revival of Les Miserables among many others.

In September, 1996, Mark joined the voice faculty of The Hartt School (Music Theatre Division).

He has worked with students of the TOHO Academy as well as members of the legendary Takarazuka Company in Tokyo, Japan.

Since February 2012, Mark has been singing in concerts produced by Broadway Concerts Direct.
