Dr. Mark Vickers serves on the faculty of the Music Education Division at The Hartt School, University of Hartford. He teaches various undergraduate and graduate courses in music education while working extensively with student teaching supervision and completion.

Dr. Vickers holds a PhD in Music Education from The Hartt School, University of Hartford, a Master of Music in Music Education with an emphasis in flute performance from The Hartt School, University of Hartford, and a Bachelor of Science in Music Education from the University of Bridgeport.

Prior to teaching at the Hartt School, Dr. Vickers served on the music education faculty of the University of Bridgeport teaching various graduate and undergraduate methods courses inclusive of instrumental methods, piano, conducting, and rehearsal techniques. He also founded and conducted the UB Knights’ Wind Ensemble. Prior to these positions, he served in public education in Connecticut for 35 years primarily as a secondary level instrumental music educator. He has worked with band programs with students in grades 4–12 and choruses with students from grades 6–12. He has presented his research at various national music education conferences including the Suncoast Music Education Symposium, Desert Skies Symposium, SMTE Symposium, and CMEA Conference. His research lines include the gender stereotyping of music instruments as well as assessment techniques. He is active as an adjudicator, presenter, and guest conductor. As a performer, he is principal flutist with the Connecticut Symphony Orchestra and director of the New York Flute Club Ensemble Program in Manhattan. Dr. Vickers studied flute extensively with Julius Baker and John Wion. He also freelances as a jazz pianist and is music director of the Silk City Jazz Band, a big band based in Manchester, CT.
