Amy Pott taught piano at the Hartt Community Division from 1989-2016, and after a break to stay home with her children, is delighted to return in 2026!
She holds a Master of Music degree in Piano Pedagogy and Performance from The University of Michigan, as well as a Bachelor’s degree from Williams College. She is a past winner of the D.H. Baldwin Fellowship for Excellence in Piano Teaching, awarded by the Baldwin Piano and Organ Company.
Her former teachers include Susan Starr, Eckart Sellheim, Paula Ennis, and Joanne Smith (pedagogy). She has participated in master classes with Menahem Pressler and Ivan Moravec.
Her performances have encompassed both solo and collaborative repertoire, including Beethoven’s Choral Fantasy, Brahms’ Horn Trio, and Saint-Saens’ Piano Concerto No. 5 (“Egyptian”), which she performed throughout Italy.
Mrs. Pott is currently Director of Worship Arts at First Church of Christ in Suffield, where she enjoys playing the piano and organ, singing, directing the choir, and generally finding joy in creativity. She and her husband have 2 college-age children, a black lab, and a golden retriever.
Teaching Philosophy
I teach with flexibility and care. Everyone learns differently, and it is my job to find the best way to enhance a student’s strengths while supporting any challenges, using age-appropriate activities and repertoire. I embrace a spirit of exploration in lessons, while guiding students through a variety of musical styles. Building strong technique is important, but we never lose sight of the fact that music is a form of joyful expression!
