Originally from South Korea, Sanga Yoon began studying the cello at age eight, inspired by her mother, an amateur cellist who shared her love of music. Now based in Connecticut and New York, she enjoys teaching and performing.
Sanga teaches cello at Cheshire Academy, Middletown Keigwin School, Simsbury High School, Virtuosi Academy, and Falcetti School of Music. She completed her Artist Diploma, Master of Music, and Bachelor of Music in Cello Performance, as well as Suzuki pedagogy studies at The Hartt School, under the guidance of Mihai Tetel, Blake Brasch, and Terry King.
As a performer, she serves as assistant principal cellist and development coordinator of the Connecticut Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra, is the cellist of the Charter Oak String Quartet, and performs as a substitute cellist with several orchestras in Connecticut, including the Hartford Symphony Orchestra, Norwalk Symphony Orchestra, and Eastern Connecticut Symphony Orchestra.
Outside of music, Sanga enjoys photography and caring for her plants.
Teaching Philosophy
I believe that teachers and students inspire one another, and learning is most meaningful when approached as a shared journey. Music, like a language, is a tool for communication and connection, and I aim to help students experience the joy, fulfillment, and support that music can bring in both everyday life and challenging times. My role as a teacher is to guide and inspire, ensuring that each student feels understood and supported while discovering their own musical voice. By fostering a positive, inclusive, and safe environment, I encourage students to experiment, make mistakes, and grow, helping them reach their highest potential both musically and personally.
