Senior Breanne Leblanc ’22 is graduating from the College of Education, Nursing and Health Professions (ENHP) with a BS in Radiologic Technology, and has been hired before graduation from her program. She plans to start a full-time third-shift position at ECHN Rockville General Hospital as a CT Technologist upon graduation.

Radiographers work in a variety of healthcare settings, including clinics, hospitals, and medical centers, serving as assistants to radiologists and other physicians. Typically, medical-imaging departments consist of a vast array of sophisticated imaging equipment and computer networks, requiring the radiographer to combine state-of-the-art technical skills with superb patient care to produce high-quality medical images of the body.

Leblanc was inspired to pursue this area of study because she believes “helping others when it matters most” is an important part of the radiologic technology position. At the University of Hartford, Leblanc was able to have one-on-one contact with professors, complete internships and clinicals, work as an EMS, and apply her classwork through hands-on experience, all preparing her for her position at ECHN Rockville General Hospital.

In UHart's Radiologic Technology program, students earn their credential in radiography by the end of their junior year, and earn a second credential in their senior year in CT, MRI, or sonography, making them even more attractive to potential employers.

According to Leblanc, “I learned a lot from all of my professors in ENHP and most of all they welcomed me with a kind and open heart that I will continue to pass on to my future patients.” She believes this is important because these professors are experts in their field. Lucy Richard was her advisor and she comments, “She lead me to stay on the Radiography path when I doubted myself and I owe her the world for that!”

Leblanc describes another important connection she made during her four years on campus. “I worked with the Department of Public Safety as an EMS team member, giving me hands-on patient care experience in a variety of emergent situations and helping me learn problem solving skills,” she says. This hands-on experience gave Leblanc her the opportunity to apply what she learned in the classroom.

What advice does Leblanc have for incoming students? She wants new students to “Study hard and believe in yourself. Times get rough, but you can always push through and be great!”
