For Erol Yuksel ’27, an exercise science junior on the direct-entry doctor of physical therapy track, the path to physical therapy began with personal experience. After spending much of his childhood in physical therapy clinics due to a chronic hip injury—and eventually undergoing surgery—Erol developed a strong interest in how the human body moves, adapts, and heals. That interest quickly grew into a passion and ultimately shaped his academic and career goals.

At the University of Hartford, Erol thrives at the intersection of academics, athletics, and leadership. He is a member of the UHart Men’s Soccer Team, where he balances the demands of collegiate athletics with rigorous coursework. In addition, he serves as Vice President of the Muslim Students Association, helping organize large-scale events—especially during Ramadan—that foster community and inclusion on campus.

Erol values UHart’s welcoming and diverse campus culture, along with the hands-on learning environment offered through the Hursey Center. The advanced classrooms, labs, and equipment provide exercise science students with meaningful experiential learning opportunities that directly connect theory to practice.

Beyond the classroom, Erol works as an administrative assistant for the exercise science program, supporting faculty with lab organization, social media, and program operations. This role has given him valuable insight into the behind-the-scenes work that supports student success and reinforced his appreciation for the College of Education, Nursing and Health Professions (ENHP). “ENHP consistently puts its students first,” he notes, citing the dedication of faculty, advisors, and staff.

Mentorship has played a key role in Erol’s success. He credits Laura Enzor for her clarity, advocacy, and support, and professor Patrick Allen for his kindness, leadership, and commitment to student growth. Their guidance has strengthened his confidence and passion for the field.

After earning his bachelor’s degree, Erol plans to continue his education in the University of Hartford’s doctor of physical therapy program, where he has already secured a guaranteed seat through the direct-entry pathway. He also plans to earn his Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) credential, with the goal of combining clinical physical therapy and strength and conditioning coaching.

Through academic excellence, leadership, and hands-on experience, Erol Yuksel exemplifies the student-centered, career-focused approach that defines exercise science at the University of Hartford.
