The Martin Luther King Jr. Day Observance Planning Committee is seeking nominations for the “The Beloved Community Member MLK Award.” Five members of the University of Hartford Community will receive this award at our 2022 Annual MLK Observance: one student, one alum, one staff member, one faculty member, and one member of the local community.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. popularized the notion of the “Beloved Community.” King envisioned the Beloved Community as a society based on justice, equal opportunity, and love of one’s fellow human beings. Through his writings and his speeches, he challenged all of us to find the courage to create positive change in a troubled world. He taught us the importance of listening to and learning from others. He shared his dream, offering a glimpse of what was possible. He inspired generations to chart a course of action, to have real impact.

With Dr. King’s vision in mind, we are seeking nominations of campus community members who:

  • Work hard to improve their community, city, and the world
  • Make or made a positive difference in the lives of others
  • Pay forward their work in various ways
  • Engage in the work of educating themselves on topics of DEIJ

Nominations are currently being accepted for students, alumni, faculty, staff, and local community members.

Submit a nomination form at the link below.

Deadline for nominations will be Jan. 7, 2022. Winners will be announced during the Annual MLK Observance program on Feb. 8, 2022.
