Barney Students Study Abroad In Northern Spain

Barney students recently got home from an incredible trip to Spain through the Business and Culture in Northern Spain program. Associate Professor of Management Daphne Berry and Assistant Professor of Psychology Stephanie Tavarez took 14 students on this study abroad opportunity of a lifetime. Students were present from the following schools and programs: MBA, MSOP, dual MBA/MSOP, CETA, A&S (politics), and Barney.

Barney student Kylar Maldonado ‘25, M’26 didn’t think he would ever have the possibility to study abroad while being a full-time student and having a full-time job, but he reflects on his experience by saying “I encourage everyone: Step out of your comfort zone and explore! You'll meet such kind people, experience beauty, and create memories, while gaining credits for your courses. From first-years to grad students in different levels of their established careers, it was smiles and laughs galore.”

Excursions of the trip included hiking Gaztelugatxe, visiting cooperatives and Mondragon Unibertsitatea with Ander Etxeberria from MONDRAGON Corporation, looking over San Sebastian from Mount Igueldo, visiting the Real Madrid C.F. museum at Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, photographing buildings like Guggenheim Museum Bilbao and the hotel Marqués de Riscal by Frank Lloyd Wright, touring a barrel room at a sustainable winery, Campo Viegjo, exploring the shops of the towns, and eating the best cuisine there was to offer.

Overall, students learned about sustainable business practices in this real-world modality and will remember this experience forever.
