Researchers from A&S and ENHP are conducting a study to better understand how exercise-based interventions could improve metabolic and musculoskeletal health in type 1 diabetic individuals. Collaborating researchers include full-time faculties from the Department of Biology, Physical Therapy and Exercise Science. Participants will be compensated with $200 gift cards for their time.
Who can be in this study?
- Anyone who is between the ages of 18–65 years
- Diagnosed as type 1 diabetes
What will participants be asked to do?
- Randomized to either no exercise or continuous exercise group for 6 weeks
- One visit per week for 8 consecutive weeks (Pre-testing, 6-week exercise intervention, Post-testing at Konover Campus Center 109 or Hursey Center 116)
- Do not drink caffeine-containing beverages on the day of each lab visit
- During the first and last lab visit you will:
- Fill out questionnaires
- Have your blood drawn
- Complete a Comprehensive Fitness Test
- The total time commitment will be about 8-10 hours spread over the 8 weeks of participation
