Several members of the Amplifying Indigenous Voices Affinity Network were honored to visit the Golden Hill Paugussett Reservation in Trumbull, Conn., to support the reprinting of the important book, Quarter-Acre of Heartache.
The book tells the story of late Chief Big Eagle of the Golden Hill Paugussett tribe and his fight (successful!) in 1976, to save the tribe's quarter acre which, tragically, is all that remains of the tribe's original 500,000 plus acres.
Long out of print, this new version has additional news and information, including the Chief’s obituary from 2008. It is available online and in book stores, and the AIV Affinity Network purchased a copy for the UHart library.
Read the Chief’s story! You will learn so much about Connecticut history and the relationships among the local tribes, the Connecticut government, and past and current non-Indigenous residents.
