Birce Tanriguden, professor of music education, and PhD candidate Hamid Niknampour co-authored and have published an article entitled: Why and How to Integrate Music into the Early Childhood Classroom. This manuscript has been published in Early Education, a peer reviewed journal housed at the University of New Zealand.
In addition to being a well-conceived and well written article, there are two aspects of this work that are additionally meritorious and noteworthy. The first is the collaborative nature of the work between a faculty member and a current student. This is the type of collaborative work that embodies the mentorship and learning to become a scholar in the field and helps to educate not only the scholarship and writing process, but the process of academic publishing as well. The second is that this journal, although in the field of education, is not a music education journal. Therefore, the reach of this work is a little broader and not in the “echo chamber” of music educators speaking to only music educators, allowing for the potential for greater impact on practice for children.
