Arlene Ruddy, who worked over three different decades at UHart assisting the dean of the College of Education, Nursing and Health Professions (ENHP), died peacefully in June.
Ruddy arrived on campus in 1974 and served until December 1998.
“I worked so closely with Arlene over my seven years as dean of ENHP," recalls Donn Weinholtz, emeritus professor of educational leadership and former dean of ENHP. “I can’t imagine having done the job without her. She was staunchly dedicated to the college’s students, faculty, and staff. She was remarkably professional and effective in performing her duties. And she was always warm and cheerful.”
Weinholtz notes that he was regularly amazed that Ruddy could accomplish all that she did and maintain her stamina while functioning on a single kidney—having donated the other kidney to save her older son’s life.
“I was blessed to have known and worked with Arlene. She was a wonderful colleague and a dear friend,” Weinholtz adds.
