October is National Cybersecurity Awareness Month

October is National Cybersecurity Awareness Month (NCSAM), and we are excited to launch our #CyberAware campaign at the University of Hartford. As cybersecurity becomes more essential in our daily lives, this campaign seeks to empower everyone in our community with the knowledge and tools needed to protect their data and systems.

This year’s National Cybersecurity Awareness Month has four key themes that will guide our efforts throughout October:

  1. Use strong passwords and a password manager—Learn the best ways to safeguard your personal information and sensitive data, both at home and at school.
  2. Use Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)—MFA strengthens your online security, adding an extra layer of protection to your accounts and data.
  3. Recognize and Report Scams—Online scams are becoming increasingly sophisticated, targeting people of all ages. But with some knowledge, you can protect yourself and the institution.
  4. Update Your Software—An easy way to boost your cybersecurity is to always keep software and apps updated.

To support these initiatives, we will offer cybersecurity training for all faculty and staff. This training will include practical tips and strategies for applying cybersecurity best practices in both your professional and personal lives. Keep an eye on your emails for information about these sessions, as your participation will be essential in creating a safer digital environment across our university.

We encourage you to participate in the #CyberAware campaign by joining the conversation, sharing your cybersecurity tips, and remaining vigilant to evolving cyber threats. Together, we can create a safer digital community at the University of Hartford.
