Lithium Battery Interim Safety Directive

Effective Aug. 1, 2026, the storage and charging of electric scooters, electric bicycles, hoverboards, and other lithium-ion-powered personal mobility devices inside residence halls is prohibited while the University develops a comprehensive campus micromobility policy. Lithium-ion batteries pose a fire risk to densely-populated residence halls.

Individuals exempt from this interim safety directive include those persons with documented disabilities that require a mobility device.

An advisory group composed of university members will draft a long-term permanent policy. If you are interested to serve on this advisory group contact David Stender at stender@hartford.edu.
