HRD is delighted to continue the fantastic Welcome Wednesday program which began in the Fall of 2019 through the President’s Steering Committee on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and which was then championed for several years by former Associate Provost, Jessica Nicklin.
Welcome Wednesdays are monthly open houses hosted by various departments across campus. During these gatherings, all members of the campus community are invited to visit the host department, connect with colleagues, and learn more about the department’s work and contributions.
The purpose of Welcome Wednesdays is to strengthen community connections, encourage collaboration, and foster meaningful social interactions across departments and units throughout campus.
If your department is interested in hosting a Welcome Wednesday event this academic year (Fall or Spring), please reach out to Jen Conley at jconley@hartford.edu with the following:
- Select a Date (preferably a Wednesday)
- Select a 60-90 minute timeframe
- Choose and confirm your location
- Ensure you will have representation present
- Share if there are upcoming departmental initiatives, awards, or other changes that can create excitement around the event
- Be creative, come up with a catchy theme (optional)
- Offer light refreshments, materials, swag, handouts (optional)
HRD will maintain the full academic year Welcome Wednesday schedule, assist with Unotes announcements and reminders, but departments will be responsible for securing spaces, any refreshments, or other materials.
All academic and non-academic areas are encouraged to participate!
The first Welcome Wednesday will kick-off with the community track walk on Sept. 16 at the Grant Family Track and Field from 11:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m. Use the link below to register.
We’d love to have at least one Welcome Wednesday per month through May—so, sign up today!
