On Wednesday, Oct. 14 the Office of Inclusive Excellence and Belonging and Office of Equity and Opportunity invite all community members to participate in Purple Ribbon Day and stand against domestic violence.
Purple ribbons are a symbol of strength, courage, hope, and solidarity. Wearing purple is a simple way to help promote awareness, foster dialogue, and remind members of our campus that no one should face violence or abuse alone. Grab a purple from The Commons between noon and 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 14. Wearing Purple is a way to show that you:
- Stand against domestic violence
- Support survivors and their right to safety, dignity, and healing
- Commit to speaking out and taking action to help stop violence in our communities
Domestic Violence Awareness Month
Recognized nationally, October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. This month is a time to raise awareness about domestic violence, honor the experience of survivors, and reaffirm our commitment to fostering communities where everyone can live with safety and respect.
Domestic Violence can affect people of every age, identity, background, and circumstance. It may take many forms, and awareness is an important step towards challenging harmful norms and connecting individuals with support and recourses.
Throughout the month, we encourage everyone to learn more, speak out, and show support for survivors. Together, we can foster a culture of respect, safety, and accountability, and work toward a future free from violence.
