Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition Returns to The Hartt School Oct. 25

auditorium

It’s your annual chance to witness opera history in the making, as 25 singers take the stage at The Hartt School, competing for a shot at the Metropolitan Opera.

The Metropolitan Opera Eric and Dominique Laffont Competition brings together thousands of up-and-coming young singers across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. UHart is a longtime host of the Connecticut Region competition.

A distinguished panel of judges will select the “best of the best” to receive cash prizes and advance to the New England Region competition in Boston.

Some of today’s greatest singers got their start in the auditions, including Renée Fleming, Susan Graham, Stephanie Blythe, Eric Owens, Lawrence Brownlee, Lisette Oropesa, Jamie Barton, Michael Fabiano, Anthony Roth Costanzo, Ryan Speedo Green, and Nadine Sierra.

Come support these young artists and witness opera history in the making!

  • Date: Sunday, October 25, 2026
  • Time: 11:00 a.m. through the afternoon
