Antoinette “Anne” Griffin, who spent nearly 28 years supporting students and faculty at the University of Hartford’s The Hartt School, died on Oct. 2.
Griffin joined Hartt in 1979 and served as coordinator of applied music until her retirement in 2007. Her work extended well beyond the administrative responsibilities of her position, particularly when students needed guidance or a helping hand.
“Anne genuinely cared about the countless Hartt students that she knew and supported,” said Benjamin Toth, professor of percussion and chair of the Percussion Department. “Whether helping international students find housing, organizing juries and auditions, processing reams of paperwork, or just providing a sympathetic ear, Anne was always there when needed, including evenings and weekends. She made Hartt’s Instrumental Studies Division feel like a family.”
Those connections endured. Griffin kept in touch with former students long after they graduated, and friendships formed with Hartt colleagues continued throughout her life.
A Hartford native and graduate of Hartford Public High School, Griffin was known for her sense of humor, generosity, and love of cooking and music. She took particular pride in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A private celebration of life is planned.
