Local Beats, Vital Streets: Why Neighborhood Newsrooms Matter

flyer

Join Reporting Hartford and Presidents’ College for a timely conversation about the vital connection between strong local reporting and strong local communities on Thursday, Oct. 1 at 12:45 p.m.–2 p.m. in Wilde Auditorium (Harry Jack Gray Center).

How can journalists build trust while maintaining their commitment to accuracy and independence? What does meaningful community-centered reporting look like? And can stronger local journalism help communities identify and create solutions of their own?

With introductory comments from UHart President Lawrence P. Ward and moderation by Associate Professor Deepa Fadnis; panelists include Hartford Mayor Arunan Arulampalam, Hartford Courant Executive Editor Helen Bennett, and Connecticut Mirror Executive Editor Elizabeth Hamilton. The discussion will consider the role of neighborhood reporting in creating informed, connected, and resilient communities. The final 20 minutes will be devoted to questions from the audience.
