Building the Foundation for Lasting Impact

By strengthening the foundation of the institution, UHart will create the capacity to pursue bold goals, adapt to change, and deliver lasting impact.

Defining Pillar Three

Operational excellence is not simply about efficiency. It is about stewardship. Every resource we manage, every process we improve, and every investment we make should strengthen our ability to fulfill our mission and advance our vision.

Positioning UHart for Long-Term Strength and Growth.

To become the university we aspire to be, we must build a foundation that is resilient, sustainable, and future focused. Strong enrollment, responsible financial management, modern facilities, secure technology systems, and a culture of accountability are not ends in themselves. They are the foundation that enables transformational education and enduring impact.

Just as importantly, success requires alignment around a common purpose. When people, resources, and strategy move together, institutions gain the capacity to pursue ambitious goals and achieve lasting results. Operational excellence ensures that UHart can continue to innovate, invest, and serve future generations with confidence. It transforms aspiration into action and vision into reality.

Operational excellence is how strategy becomes reality. UHart is aligning our people, resources, and priorities around a shared vision that is distinctive, consistent, and compelling. It’s building upon a strong foundation that allows UHart to innovate, grow, and deliver on its promise to students, alumni, and the communities we serve.''

Our Five Goals for Strategic Action

Goal 1: Strengthen Enrollment, Retention, and Revenue Stability

Core aim: Create a stable, diversified financial foundation through yield-focused enrollment growth and intentional retention strategies.

  1. Identify the optimal institutional size and the associated mix of undergraduate, graduate, and non-degree students and programs to sustain the university.
  2. Build a coordinated, data-driven undergraduate and graduate enrollment and retention strategy through Strategic Enrollment Management (SEM) and Retention Committees.
  3. Develop multiyear enrollment and financial projections to guide decision-making.
  4. Optimize tuition, aid, and pricing strategies to remain competitive and financially stable.
  5. Increase non-tuition revenue by maximizing campus utilization for events and community programming.

Goal 2: Modernize Campus Operations and Operational Infrastructure

Core aim: Build a modern, efficient,k and sustainable campus environment, guided by data-informed planning and a long-term capital strategy.

  1. Develop a comprehensive, data-informed, and actionable campus master plan.
  2. Conduct a campus-wide deferred maintenance assessment, prioritizing high-risk infrastructure with related financial models to support long-term capital renewal.
  3. Use the master plan to guide infrastructure improvements in residence halls, instructional and communal spaces, capacity planning, safety, and campus experience, with regular updates that are aligned with institutional strategy.
  4. Leverage technology—including data analytics and process automation where appropriate—to streamline operations and reduce operational friction, eliminate redundancies to improve efficiencies, and free up resources for mission-critical priorities.
  5. Establish clear ownership of key operational processes and build toward a more sustainable cost structure.

Goal 3: Elevate Brand, Identity, and Market Position

Core aim: Increase visibility, competitiveness, and pride in the UHart identity.

  1. Define and share a consistent, distinctive, and compelling brand narrative that is easily understood and articulated.
  2. Strengthen and amplify UHart’s identity through elevated storytelling and communications, internally, regionally, and nationally.
  3. Identify and allocate appropriate resources to facilitate comprehensive marketing campaigns and digital assets for an institution of our size and standing.
  4. Identify and pursue strategic rankings and recognitions that align with institutional strengths.
  5. Enhance the visit experience through updated signage, intentional wayfinding, and the elevation of memorable spaces and offerings.

Goal 4: Expand Philanthropic Investment to Support Institutional Priorities

Core aim: Secure additional resources and funding opportunities necessary to advance the university's mission and strategic goals.

  1. Develop and launch a comprehensive fundraising campaign focused on institutional priorities, pending a feasibility study.
  2. Identify and cultivate a set of alumni, donor, and corporate partners to support institutional priorities.
  3. Work with federal, state, and local governments and agencies to identify grant or supplemental funding.
  4. Utilize the Office of Sponsored Programs to apply for and expand funding to support and enhance the academic enterprise.

Goal 5: Build a Future-Ready Digital Ecosystem

Core aim: Establish a more secure, integrated digital foundation and infrastructure that supports academic, adminstrative, and institutional excellence.

  1. Prioritize the transition to Banner Cloud, strengthen cybersecurity protocols and compliance assessments, and modernize software systems.
  2. Align IT systems with student success goals and business operations, eliminate redundancies, and document critical software solutions.
  3. Establish funded replacement cycles for technology across classrooms, offices, and learning spaces.
  4. Review and strengthen IT governance to support institutional decision making.
