A Master of Art at 70
At age 70, recent Hartford Art School graduate Arnethia Douglass ’20, M’22 has learned the art of patience, listening, and having confidence as an artist. Douglass’ enthusiasm to further her education as the most senior student in her classes did not come without some apprehension. It was the support from her classmates, Douglass says, that made all the difference.
Helping Others Go Places
Opportunity, development and empowerment, those are the three words that GoingPlaces Art Collective lives by. Founded in 2018, by two Hartford Art School alumni, Kimberly DiMilia and Alexander Ranniello, GoingPlaces is a collective that aims to build connections with and for all kinds of artists, arts communities and businesses throughout the CT, tri-state area.
Taking Space–Whether Big or TINY
Rondasia Lamaria is a Connecticut-based photographer and designer, that holds two degrees from the University of Hartford. She received a BFA from the Hartford Art School in 2013, and returned to the University of Hartford, to receive a masters in communications in 2017.
Creating Your Own Path–with Casey Hanrahan
Artist and educator Casey Hanrahan received a BFA from the Hartford Art School in 2012, she was a double major in Ceramics and Illustration. With her degree, Casey began teaching general art at a private boarding school, where she continued to work for five years. In 2016 she felt that it was time to look into graduate school. For artists it is often better to experience a few years in the workforce prior to attending an MFA program. While Casey still enjoyed teaching, she wanted to push herself as an artist. She craved continuing her own education and “seeing what new experiences would come from grad school.”
Chotsani Dean '98
Chotsani Dean is a ceramicist and professor, teaching at the University of Minnesota. As a research institution, the University provides a wonderful studio space and research budget to support Chotsani's research through studio practice, teaching, visiting artist workshops and applying to exhibitions and galleries.
