Steven Anderson has built a distinguished career at the intersection of engineering, geospatial technology, and innovation. His bachelor's degree in civil engineering, along with his skills and motivation, opened the door to a career where he has led the planning, design, and implementation of various projects, including geographic information systems (GIS), relational databases, data analytics, and artificial intelligence. These efforts aim to provide solutions for stakeholders at all levels of society, including state and federal clients.
Anderson began his career as a civil engineer and surveyor at Henry Hart Surveying & Engineering in Woodbury, Connecticut. Later, he joined Fuss & O'Neill in Manchester, Connecticut, where, as an associate partner, he established the first GIS consulting services company in the state. Subsequent roles expanded Anderson's GIS influence throughout southern New England.
Currently serving as senior vice president, principal, and director of technology enablement for VHB, based in Orlando, Florida, he leads the advancement and expansion of geospatial and innovative technologies.
As a contribution to the GIS profession, Anderson co-authored an instructional text, The Design and Implementation of Geographic Information Systems, used by many universities, and helped develop the syllabus for the first GIS course at UHart, where he served as an adjunct professor. He also sat on several Connecticut data and GIS boards.
A competitive golfer and dedicated community volunteer, Anderson has also served as a golf coach for the Special Olympics.
