Abe Hefter is an Applied Assistant Professor, Journalism and Media, within the School of Communication. Professor Hefter joins the University of Hartford after more than a decade of teaching journalism and public relations at Concordia University in Montreal. He earned his BA in English (Film and Communication) from McGill University and his MA in Journalism Studies from Concordia. His most recent research examines the use of Twitter by a select group of journalists in their coverage of the Montreal Canadiens of the National Hockey League.
 
Professor Hefter has extensive professional experience as a sports broadcaster/broadcast journalist. His travels as a national reporter have taken him to four Olympics (Lake Placid, Calgary, Seoul and Vancouver); Pan American Games (Indianapolis); Commonwealth Games (Edinburgh, Auckland, Victoria) along with the Major League Baseball Playoffs, Stanley Cup, and World Hockey Championships. His radio stops include 12 years as a show host, reporter and sportscaster at news-talk station CJAD, five years as Sports Director at the Canadian Press national news agency, and two years as the weekend morning show host at ESPN affiliate, TSN 690. He’s done play-by-play of the Montreal Canadiens (NHL), Montreal Impact (MLS) and Montreal Alouettes (CFL) and he continues to talk sports on Twitter @hefteronthehabs.
 
Professor Hefter is an avid music fan and has been a regular at the Montreal International Jazz Festival over the years. He also plays a pretty mean blues guitar.
